Monday Mix: Social Media News You May Have Missed

Hope everyone enjoyed the official start of summer this weekend. If you were out enjoying the Summer Solstice, or World Cup, you might have missed these social media updates:

  • Facebook Ad Redesign to Lead to Possible Ad Price Increase: A recent announcement revealing the new look of Facebook ads also hinted that Facebook ad prices may go up. This latest announcement provides more information following an April update that the look of right-hand columns would become more consistent with ads appearing in News Feeds. The change will make right-hand column ads more prominent but will also reduce the total number of ads on the right-hand column.   • Twitter Adds Support for GIFs: Twitter’s latest platform update now makes it possible to upload and view animated GIFs. This update follows recent changes Twitter has made focused on visual content. Support for GIFs could give be designed to give Twitter an edge over Facebook which does not currently support GIFs.
  • Snapchat Launches Our Story: Snapchat just launched Our Story, a feature similar to Stories but for groups. Our Story allows Snapchat users who are in the same location at an event to contribute snaps (images) to a group story. The Our Story features makes Snapchat story creation a collaborative endeavor.
