Monday Mix: Social Media News You May Have Missed

The first month of 2015 is about to wrap up. If you’ve been focused on staying strong to your resolutions, here’s the social media news you may have missed:

  • Pinterest Improves Guided Search: Pinterest has improved Guided Search so that results will more closely align with a user’s stated gender if selected. Previously, search results would bring up the most popular items related to search items. Users with personal accounts can opt to select their gender by accessing their account settings.
  • Twitter Shows Users Top Tweets They Missed: Twitter released a new feature that recaps some of the top Tweets they may have missed from accounts they follow. Twitter will select the tweets to display based on factors like engagement. The “While you were away” feature is currently available for Twitter iOS app; the feature is coming to Twitter’s Android app and Twitter.com.Monday_Mix_Twitter_away
  • Facebook Improving News Feed Now Flagging Hoaxes: Facebook’s News Feed will now flag and reduce the likelihood hoaxes and misleading news content displays in the News Feed in response to user feedback. Facebook won’t actively remove such content but will add annotation to posts that have received feedback indicating they are a hoax or misleading. Facebook will also reduce the distribution of such content according to how many times it is deleted by viewers.
