Monday Mix: Social Media News You May Have Missed

Hanukkah is happening this week and Christmas is just around the corner. If you’ve been busy trying to finish your holiday shopping, then here are some social media news highlights you should know about:

LinkedIn Simplifies Profile Editing: LinkedIn has modified profile editing by updating and adding several new features. For instance, editing no longer requires searching for and clicking on “edit” on the parts of their profile a user wants to update. Users simply need to click on whatever section they’d like to update and begin typing to make changes. Users will now find a “view profile” button that allows them to see what their profile looks like to others. Profile categories like certifications and volunteer work have also been moved to remind users to add this information to their profiles.

Facebook Adds Call to Action Button on Fan Pages: Facebook has launched a call-to-action button on pages to help drive page user’s goals. The button can be customized to feature one of seven actions: “book now,” “contact us,” “use app,” “play game,” “shop now,” “sign up,” or “watch video.” The button will become available to US users in the coming weeks and worldwide in the coming year.

Instagram Reaches 300 Million Users and Announces New Feature: Instagram officially announced their having reached 300 million users on December 10. In announcing this milestone, Instagram also revealed a new feature – verified badges. Verified badges will now be visible to identify the official accounts of brands and celebrities. Instagram also announced continuing work deactivating spam accounts, which might affect follower numbers for some accounts.
