Monday Mix: Social Media News You May Have Missed

Just in time for a new month, here are the latest social media and technology updates you need to know about:

  • Facebook Pages Manager App Adds New Features: Updating your Facebook page via the official Facebook Pages Manager App just got a little easier as of Thursday. Facebook Page managers can now (finally!) pin or unpin posts to the top of the Page timeline. The update also lets managers choose a new profile picture from Timeline or photo album pictures. And, if you’re in the US, you can now invite people to your page from your phone’s contacts. 14-04 Monday_Mix_Facebook_Pages_Manager_App
  • Pinterest Makes Up Almost One-Quarter of Social Sharing: A recent study by Gigya found Pinterest continuing to gain ground as a social sharing site. Gigya examined the most popular social networks for the period of October-December 2013 and compared that data with the previous three months. The data showed Pinterest on a continued upward trend as a social sharing destination now accounting for 24% of social shares.
  • Technology and Social Media Use by Seniors Growing: In a newly released report, the Pew Research Center’s Internet & American Life Project found that nearly six in 10 adults aged 65 or older use the Internet. By way of comparison, adults aged 18 and over make up 86% of Internet users. The study also found that 47% of seniors access the Internet via broadband service and 77% own a mobile phone.
